In an era of increasing challenges to democratic participation and community cohesion, schools play a crucial role in empowering students to understand and engage in the democratic process. At the College of Education, #EdTerpsEngage are leading the way in conducting research and preparing educators to facilitate meaningful civic learning. Our efforts focus on teaching students how to exercise their civic rights and duties and identify mis/disinformation. Through our work, we are strengthening civic engagement and building more informed and connected communities. 

Initiatives and Programs

  A partnership of experts in education, journalism,  political science and public policy to form the leadership for university research, teaching and learning and democracy-related programs.

  The College of Education is a founding member of this cross-partisan organization committed to building an inclusive coalition committed to ensuring that all Maryland students have access to meaningful, hands-on, comprehensive civic education and service-learning opportunities.

  A professional development program designed to support the integration of civic engagement experiences into any planned or designed course.
